VCU Cary Street Gym & Aquatic Center

VCU Cary Street Gym & Aquatic Center

Originally constructed in 1891, the VCU Cary Street Gym building has housed a public market, auditorium, warehouse, and now stands as a world-class recreational facility for VCU students, faculty and staff.

Despite its grand size, the architecture of the 100,000 SF addition defers to the historic nature of the existing structure and neighborhood. The inside, however, is a tribute to both the building's historical roots and 21st century architecture, aesthetics, and health and fitness facilities. Wrapped in the walls of the original 32,000 SF market, gym patrons can appreciate the history of the space while enjoying the 38’ rock-climbing wall for bouldering, caving area and belaying classes, 3-lane Indoor running track, 18,000 SF fitness center with cardio, selectorized and free weight equipment, 4-court gym for basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton. a Multi Activity Center with indoor turf for soccer, dodge ball and more.
