Jefferson School City Center
"A Legacy Preserved, A Soul Reborn in the Heart of Charlottesville!" Jefferson School City Center
As a community that clearly values its history, the renovation/restoration of this 75,000 SF Charlottesville landmark is a clear testament to the city's dedication to transform Jefferson School into the "Soul of Downtown". While renovating this former school to make way for the nine new resident partners, every effort was made to retain and preserve the historic character of the school in accordance with The Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
Utilizing Historical Tax Credits, K+L performed the wholesale interior demolition and abatement and subsequent restoration of interior and exterior elements including doors and windows. New M/E/P and low voltage building systems were installed, as well as alterations to meet ADA requirements. Tenants enjoying this historic, yet modern, space include a new recreational center, a museum/cultural center, a cafe, and other various businesses and organizations inhabiting more traditional office space. This project also featured the construction of a 2-level table-top parking deck.
