James River Association - James A. Buzzard River Center

The James A. Buzzard River Education Center is located in downtown Richmond on the banks of the James River.  Housing classrooms and equipment to expand the opportunities for people of all ages to learn about this critical environmental resource, The Center will be the  base of operations for river trips and will host events.  It serves as the flagship for other centers planned along the James River in Lynchburg and Williamsburg.  This project involved significant site exploration—unearthing long-forgotten structures along the river—to ensure the stability of the building.  Given the unique location of this building—in a 100-year floodplain—specialized flood-resistant materials were used.
