Country Club of Virginia - Sports and Fitness Center

“It is proposed to have every advantage that an outdoor sportsman can wish to enjoy, as well as every convenience for those fond of indoor life.” – Richmond Times Dispatch, July 22, 1908.

For more than a century, every renovation or addition the Club has undertaken has reflected the original intent of the charter members. However, that statement could now be rewritten replacing “outdoor sportsman” with the word family. Capable of creating a strong man competitor, readying the next Tour de France champion, or just feeding the kids a snack in between activities, the recently completed renovation and fitness facility goes beyond the normal gym experience. It seeks to offer a holistic approach to health - a “time out” for individuals and families to indulge in much needed self-care.

The project is a combination of the renovation of 20,000 SF of existing areas and the construction of approximately 33,000 sf of new additional areas.  The renovated areas encompass portions of the fitness spaces, locker rooms and the creation of larger pro shop areas as well as a health spa area.  The new addition includes a singles and a doubles squash court, a new “Fast Casual” café,  fitness studios and work out areas, as well as connecting corridors to improve circulation within the facility. The project was phased with three distinct work separations.
