This project consists of a 16,000 SF renovation and reconfiguration of the existing basement level vivarium  in UVA's old Jordan Hall.  The construction included staunch security requirements, strict coordination of utility outages, restricted work hours, and noise requirements.  This work includes:
  • Extensive demolition of existing finishes
  • Replacement of the entire mechanical, electrical, and sprinkler systems including expanding and upgrading the fire alarm system.  The mechanical replacement included a new air handler unit, new exhaust system, and new ductwork all specifically designed to serve the special needs of this space.

Code requirements were also addressed via the aforementioned sprinkler system, and an improved file alarm system as well as the addition of a new stand-alone emergency generator were installed.  Renovations included constructing new partitions, adding new door openings, constructing all new finishes such as epoxy flooring throughout, epoxy painted walls, and new plaster and acoustical ceilings.  A major component of this project was the addition of approximately 8,000 SF of new mezzanine-level catwalk constructed of structural steel with bar grate walking surface.
